Hiroshima is one of three Japanese cities to have made it into a new guide to the world's top cities soon to be published by Lonely Planet. The other two cities are Tokyo (26th) and Kyoto (45th) with rankings based on a Lonely Planet poll. The results seem to confirm the impression we get from talking with visiting tourists, that Japan is on more and more travelers' "to see" lists.
Kyodo news quotes Lonely Planet's Travel Information Manager, Tom Hall, as saying, "With Hiroshima it's the iconic nature of the name of the city that gets people going there and when they arrive they discover a very lively city with a great entertainment scene and lots of culture."
When I first visited Hiroshima, the Lonely Planet entry said that were it not for that iconic nature, there would be absolutely no reason to visit the city at all. It's nice to see that others are now coming round to seeing Hiroshima as we at GetHiroshima do.
